A fabulous way to spend a few hours is to take a walk from the park, through the Moonee Beach Nature Reserve. It is a fabulous portion of coastline that remains much as it was when Captain cook named the Solitary islands. Abundant with bird life, listen to the surf crashing on rocky headlands and the cries of seabirds or take a peaceful stroll along unspoiled Moonee Beach.Another fabulous walk for the more adventurous is the Woolgoolga Creek Picnic Area. It is a gentle 3.5 km return walk and takes about 1.5 hours at a leisurely stroll. Meandering through the rain forest to the base of the Woolgoolga Creek Falls, the walk does involve up to 6 creek crossings so make sure you wear appropriate footwear.
There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of earning a meal! One of my favorite walks, is from the park, along the foreshore to Woolgoolga. It is about takes about 1.5 hours (I recommend you do it at low tide). The Blue Bottles café is a great place for a scrummy brunch. To get back, you can either jump on a local bus, stroll home or catch a taxi.
“…I really recommend the walk from the park to the Emerald Beach Headland. We made the trip in the early evening, with a blanket and a bottle of wine. The wildlife was abundant. Along the way we passed a group of wallerbys and another of Grey kangaroos. It was a real highlight watching the sea birds flying and the sun go down sipping a glass of wine and nibbling on cheese and crackers.
I will remember that evening for a long time to come…” Cheryl.
